About Me
Hi there! Welcome to Bonus Space! I’m Melanie Adams- avid DIYer, and design enthusiast living in Denver, Colorado.
Over the years, I have worn many hats as an architectural, interior, and landscape designer.
Very quickly, ‘weird’ and ‘difficult’ spaces became my specialty, so I started this blog to address the common question I was getting time and time again- “What the heck should I do with this strange space?!”
The Bonus Space mission is to provide inspiration for affordable, and creative DIY home improvement projects focused on optimizing space and functionality.
Follow my journey as I renovate my first home, and walk you through my own DIY, decorating, and home improvement projects step by step. I will share my tips, tricks, and secrets to transform any underutilized space, increase property value, and confidently tackle any DIY project!
A Little More About Me…
I’m a designer, with a degree in Environmental Design, and Sustainable Architecture from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
My experience ranges a wide spectrum, from designing affordable housing and schools in San Francisco, luxury townhomes in Denver, ski resorts and mountain lodging throughout the Rockies, and specialized interiors for residential and commercial buildings across the country.
There’s nothing I enjoy more than helping people create spaces they love, and writing about design, interior decorating, space optimization, and DIY projects! So, I decided to start the Bonus Space blog as a way to do just that- help others by writing about what I’m most passionate about!
Because I believe with every do-it-yourself project, comes a strong sense of pride and accomplishment. I’m a firm believer in rolling up your sleeves, working hard, and challenging yourself. I hope I can encourage others to stop dreaming about the spaces they wish they had, and instead, roll up their sleeves to start making those dreams a reality!
Maybe you don’t know where to begin, or you have an idea but don’t know how to bring those ideas to life. Perhaps you’ve tried to start one (or a few) DIY project(s) but hit some roadblocks along the way.
No matter where you are in your DIY process, I’m here to provide advice, inspiration, and encouragement every step of the way!
