The subtle truffle flavor adds warmth and depth to this classic recipe, and elevates it to a truly elegant dish.

Top with shredded parmesan or gruyere cheese to add a little something extra to this already decadent side dish!

Garlic Truffle Mashed Potatoes

This garlic truffle mashed potatoes recipe is perfect for the holidays or a special occasion! The subtle truffle flavor adds warmth and depth to this classic recipe, and elevates it to a truly elegant dish.

Ingredients
  

  • 6 russet potatoes
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • ½ – ¾ cup half and half
  • 4-5 tbsp butter
  • 1-2 tsp truffle salt to taste
  • 1 tsp fresh ground pepper
  • 1 pinch truffle powder
  • 2 tbsp grated parmesan or gruyere cheese *optional: to top*

Instructions
 

  • Peel and dice potatoes into large cubes.
  • Place potatoes in large pot, and add cold water until potatoes are covered. Add salt to water and bring to a boil.
  • Cook potatoes approximately 10 minutes until tender and potato easily falls off inserted fork. Drain potatoes and rinse under cold water to shock.
  • Melt 1 tbsp butter in large pot on medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant. Add cooked potatoes and stir to coat with garlic.
  • Add half and half and butter and mash potatoes until smooth using a masher, hand mixer, or transfer to mix master. Adjust half and half and butter to achieve soft creamy texture.
  • Add 1-2 tsp truffle salt (taste after 1 tsp and add more to taste) and 1 tsp fresh ground pepper.
  • Transfer to serving dish and sprinkle with grated parmesan or gruyere cheese (if desired) and a pinch of truffle powder.
  • Serve and enjoy!

For those who are interested in seeing how I made these garlic truffle mashed potatoes, here is some bonus info and a few extra photos to help you out! Here’s what you’ll need to make this devilishly decadent side dish:

Ingredients:

  • 6 russet potatoes (or one per person)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ – ¾ cup half and half
  • 4-5 tbsp butter
  • 1-2 tsp truffle salt (to taste) – I use Sabatino
  • 1 tsp fresh ground pepper
  • a pinch truffle powder (Sabatino)
  • Optional grated parmesan or gruyere cheese to top

First, start by peeling and dicing the russet potatoes into large cubes.

Then place the diced potatoes into a large pot, and fill the pot with cold water until the potatoes are fully covered. Add salt to the water and bring to a boil.

Once the water has come to a boil, cook the potatoes approximately 10 minutes or until they are tender when inserted with a fork. The potatoes will fall off the fork easily when they’re done.

Drain the potatoes in a colander and rinse under cold water to shock them.

Next, melt 1 tbsp of butter in a large pot over medium heat, then add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.

Place the cooked potatoes in the large pot, and stir to coat with the garlic and butter.

Add most of the half and half and butter, then mash the potatoes using a masher, hand mixer, or transfer to mix master. Adjust the half and half and butter to achieve smooth, soft, creamy texture.

Season with 1-2 tsp truffle salt (taste after 1 tsp, then add more to taste) and 1-2 tsp fresh ground pepper.

I use Sabatino truffle salt and powder, and the quantities in this recipe are based on this brand. You can find Sabatino truffle products at World market, Costco, or online. If you are using a different truffle salt, season carefully and adjust to taste.

Finally, transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving container, and sprinkle with a pinch of truffle powder to garnish. Add grated parmesan or gruyere cheese on top if desired.

Serve immediately, and enjoy! You stay classy mashed potatoes!
