The Bonus Cookbook
For those who are interested to see how I made this recipe, here’s some bonus info and a few extra photos to help you out! Here’s what you’ll need to make this tasty scalloped potatoes au gratin recipe:
Ingredients:
- 7 potatoes
- salt to taste
- Butter (to grease pan)
- A scant pinch of nutmeg (to taste)
- 6 oz gruyere cheese – shredded (approximately 2 c)
- ¾-1 cup half and half
- 2 cloves garlic- diced
Start by preheating your oven to 350F.
Butter an 8”x8” glass baking dish, and sprinkle 1 clove minced garlic into the bottom of the baking dish.
Peel and thinly slice the potatoes.
Add sliced potatoes into a large bowl and mix with salt, nutmeg, remaining garlic and grated cheese. Don’t overdo it on the nutmeg!
Reserve approximately ¼ cup of the grated gruyere cheese for on top later. Mix potatoes potatoes with your hands to evenly coat them in seasoning and cheese.
Place your potato mixture into glass dish, and pour half and half over the potatoes. It’s better to have too much half and half than too little, this will help create a creamy texture for the au gratin.
Top the potatoes with an even layer of the reserved shredded gruyere cheese.
Cover your glass dish with aluminum foil, and bake at 350F for 45 minutes.
Take the foil off the glass dish and broil (or bake at 400F) for approximately 20-25 minutes, or until top cheese has browned.
Serve Immediately, and enjoy with your favorite dishes!
Cheers!
